I'm trying to understand why my wife's text messages are showing RCS (Rich Communication Services) and SMS/MMS indicators instead of the actual text content. The phone also doesn't display older messages. Can someone help clarify what's going on? Is there a chance these messages are disappearing or is the phone just slow?

Just ask her directly about it. It's the simplest way to get clarity! What do you expect us to do about it?
It seems like RCS is active, which means the phone is showing a different type of messaging instead of traditional SMS. If she’s interacting with someone else using RCS, that could explain the icons you're seeing. It's kind of like how iMessage shows messages differently.
RCS is just an enhanced version of SMS that allows for internet-connected messaging, while SMS is the standard. If she’s texting someone with only a letter for their name and they’ve deleted history, that's probably why you're seeing that.
I get that, but why aren’t the actual texts visible?!
