Why Can I Only Access Popular Websites?

I'm having a weird internet issue where I can only access certain popular websites like Google and YouTube, but nothing else seems to work. I've done some digging and it seems like a DNS problem might be involved. However, I'm running into the same issue on all my devices, which makes me think it's not just a local cache thing since I'm also able to access sites I rarely visit, like bbc.com or ign.com.

When I run a trace route for the domains, I find that everything hangs on the 4th IP, which belongs to my ISP, and the working pages also route through this IP. This leads me to believe the problem is with my ISP—maybe they're blocking traffic or there's something wrong with their DNS resolution. Has anyone else experienced something like this or have any suggestions?

It sounds like there could be a firewall configuration on your ISP's end that’s blocking certain sites. Have you given your phone's hotspot a try to see if you can access other websites that way?

I've experienced similar issues on my phone where only Google and YouTube worked. I just toggled airplane mode on and off and it fixed my issue. Might be worth resetting the connection on your end too!

Make sure to check if your IPv4 is functioning properly. Sometimes, it might be an issue with IPv6 settings if you have them enabled.

I did check, and it looks like IPv4 is working fine, but I’ll double-check IPv6 settings.
