Why can’t I connect to 5GHz WiFi on my PC and fix my slow speeds?

I recently upgraded to a Virgin Media hub 5 router with a 1 Gbps package, which works great for all my other devices. However, my PC is underperforming. Previously, I was getting around 300 Mbps with my old 2.4GHz network, but now I'm only getting about 80 Mbps on the same band. When I try to connect to the 5GHz network, it indicates that I'm connected, but I can't access the internet. Is there a specific setting on my router or PC that I need to adjust to resolve this?

Before rushing to buy a new WiFi card, double-check your router settings. Ensure that the 5GHz band is enabled and not set to some low bandwidth mode. Also, check if your PC’s network adapter settings are optimized for the 5GHz connection.

It might be worth considering a new WiFi card for your PC. Sometimes, older cards just can't handle the newer tech or speeds, even if they technically support it. If your card is fairly new, you might want to check its drivers for any necessary updates or settings that may need tweaking.
