I recently installed GNOME on my Linux Mint system, but I noticed that in the settings under appearance, the only options available are dark mode, light mode, and wallpaper selection. I feel like I can't customize it beyond that. Did I install just a basic version of GNOME instead of the full feature set? Any insights would be appreciated!

You're encountering the default GNOME experience. To really customize your desktop, you should look into using Extensions. Check out "Extension Manager" and "Gnome Tweaks" which you can get from your software center. They'll let you explore a ton of themes and functionality to make GNOME feel more personalized.
Customization in GNOME is pretty limited right out of the box. Besides the themes and wallpaper you mentioned, you can also change the accent color starting from version 47. You won't find much more without some extra tools.
I ran into another problem though. After rebooting my PC, all my GNOME customizations disappeared, including the desktop wallpaper and extensions. I'm considering switching to a GNOME-based distro like Fedora.

So, if I switch to a distro like Fedora that's also based on GNOME, will it be more customizable?
