Why Can’t I Get 240Hz With My HDMI 2.1 Setup?

I'm having trouble getting 240Hz refresh rate on my setup. I have an HDMI 2.1 cable, and both my laptop (MSI Sword 16HX B13V) and my monitor (Viewsonic VX2758A-2K-PRO-3) have HDMI 2.1 ports, but I can't seem to achieve 240Hz even at 1080p. Can anyone help me figure this out?

It sounds like a bandwidth issue. HDMI may not support 240Hz for your particular setup. You might want to consider using a DisplayPort cable instead, if your laptop has one.

I checked the specs for your monitor and it seems HDMI only goes up to 144Hz—which is likely why you can't hit 240Hz. You'll probably need a DisplayPort connection for that. Your laptop does have a USB Type-C port that can work with a DP cable.

Check your laptop settings under display options. Sometimes you just need to change the refresh rate manually.
