Why Can’t I Get Both Monitors to Run at 144Hz?

I'm having some trouble with my dual monitor setup. I've got two MSI G271 monitors connected to a Radeon RX 580 video card. One monitor displays at 144Hz and 3200x1800, while the second only shows 59.94Hz at 1920x1080. When I try to set the second monitor to 144Hz, the resolution drops to 720x480. I'm wondering if this is a problem with my graphics card or if I've just messed up a setting somewhere. I've enabled Virtual Super Resolution in the AMD Adrenalin Software for both displays and want to know what else I could try. Any thoughts?

Yeah, it looks like not enough bandwidth is your main issue when trying to output both monitors at those high specs. Those good ol’ Voodoo II days!

As for using the three cards, that's a bit tricky. You could try running two cards with one monitor each if your setup allows it. Just remember to set both monitors to their native 1080p 144Hz; one card can usually handle that alone, but having the third card might not give you the performance boost you expect.
Don't beat yourself up, these setups can be super confusing!

Exactly! Sometimes a single card can handle what you need; just keep the native resolution and refresh rates. It can actually simplify your setup.

Have you tried using just one monitor at full settings? If the 1080p monitor gets 144Hz when the other monitor is disabled, then it seems like the RX 580 can't handle both at peak performance simultaneously. Also, check the cables; sometimes, the specific cables or ports can limit the settings you can achieve.

It sounds like your issue is due to the bandwidth limitations of your RX 580 when trying to drive both monitors at those settings. Virtual Super Resolution can lead to issues like this when using multiple high-resolution monitors.

Here’s what you can do:
1. **Disable Virtual Super Resolution**: Go to the AMD Adrenalin Software, find the Display tab, and turn off VSR for that monitor. Restart your PC afterward.
2. **Set Both Monitors to Native Resolution**: Adjust both displays to 1920x1080 and 144Hz for better performance. That way, your card won't struggle to keep up.
3. **If You Want to Keep VSR**: If you need VSR enabled for certain tasks on one monitor, just accept a lower refresh rate on the second monitor, maybe set it to 60Hz instead.
