Why Can’t I Get My Game Controllers to Work on Linux?

I've been using Linux for a couple of months now, primarily on Debian 12 with KDE plasma for gaming. I switched from Windows and initially struggled a lot, but managed to get my Logitech F 310 controller working well. However, I recently tried to get my 8bitdo controller to work for some multiplayer fun, and while it was recognized by Steam and a couple of games, it won't work in most of them. To make matters worse, now my Logitech controller won't work in any game either, though it's still recognized by Steam. I'm feeling really lost and frustrated about this whole controller situation. Has anyone else experienced this?

I totally get your frustration! I had a rough time with my HyperX controller on Linux too; it just wouldn't respond even though it's designed for Xbox. I heard that original Xbox controllers are supposed to work nicely with Linux, but it's a bummer to give up on the one you like. I ended up sticking to Windows, but I have a friend who uses the Logitech F 310, and it works great for them without any issues. It's reliable and reasonably priced, so maybe that's still your best bet! Let me know if you try it out.

Yeah, I've heard the 360 controllers are pretty solid on Linux too! If you're looking for something hassle-free, maybe try that one. I also plan to grab a Gamrombo version and I'll keep you posted on how it goes.
