Why can’t I set my MSI monitor to 240 Hz?

I'm having trouble getting my MSI 240 Hz monitor to run at that refresh rate. I'm using an HDMI 2.1 cable that should support 1440p at 240 Hz. I'm on Windows 11 and my GPU is an RTX 4050. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

Look into your NVIDIA settings, as enabling V-Sync or other features might prevent you from reaching higher FPS. Also, explore your monitor's OSD menu for any refresh rate settings.

Try switching to a DisplayPort cable instead of HDMI. Many monitors can only achieve 240 Hz over DisplayPort, even if your HDMI cable is rated for it.

Ensure that your monitor is set to 240 Hz in the settings. Sometimes they default to 60 or 120 Hz. If it's set correctly and you still can't get 240 Hz, the cable might not be working properly.

Check if your monitor actually supports 240 Hz over HDMI. Many models can only do it through DisplayPort because HDMI has licensing limitations for higher refresh rates.
