Why did my Facebook relationship status change without my permission?

So, I recently went through a breakup with my girlfriend and set my Facebook relationship status to private, thinking that no one would see it. However, last night, my ex messaged me saying it showed I was single, which is visible publicly. I'm confused because I thought I had it private. How could this happen? I understand why she might think I'm lying, but I genuinely don't know how my status changed. Can anyone explain this?

Honestly, I think Facebook does have a quirk that it makes your status public if there's a significant change, even if your settings are private. It can be confusing! But if you're truly done with that relationship, then just embrace being single and let people see it the way it is now.

With all the stuff going on in relationships these days, Facebook can be a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes it's just better to keep things offline and not worry about how you're labeled on a website. Just keep doing you!

Honestly, if you just broke up, Facebook is probably just reflecting that you’re single now. It seems to automatically update, which might be why it slipped through the privacy settings. Just a heads-up – it’s all pretty public on there once the relationship status switches, so that's likely what happened.

Yeah, it does seem like a weird feature. You’d think privacy would cover that too.

Right? It feels like they should give us more control over that stuff.

Listen, if your ex is that invested in your Facebook status, it might be time for both of you to just move on. Relationships shouldn’t hinge on social media drama. Also, consider keeping that status hidden from now on, or just leave it blank altogether. It’s really no one’s business!

Totally agree! It’s such a pointless thing to stress over.

For sure! Focus on what matters, not on social media.
