Why Does My ChatGPT Seem So Confused Lately?

I've been using ChatGPT both the free and plus versions for a year, and it was always really reliable. But in the past few weeks, it feels completely off and almost useless. For instance, I asked about Ireland, and it couldn't distinguish between Northern and Republic Ireland. After clarifying, it went off on a tangent about 3D printing instead of answering my question.

I also inquired about the actress Ilka Chase, and it somehow started talking about Chevy cars. Even when I clarified and told it I didn't mean Chevy, it just got more lost. This pattern has repeated for weeks. What happened to my ChatGPT? Why does it feel so broken? Thanks for any help!

You're not alone! I've also had problems with context. Just the other day, I pasted in a large transcript to ask about Dynamics CRM, and it went way off-topic, answering questions about something completely different. It feels like the more data you throw at it, the more confused it gets. The context issue really does seem to be a major hurdle right now.

I've noticed some issues too after the recent updates. It seems like newer versions have really struggled with coherence at times. I wouldn't worry too much; hopefully the next update will resolve these quirks. In the meantime, it might be helpful to simplify your queries or break them down.

It sounds like your ChatGPT is having trouble keeping track of the context of your questions. Lately, OpenAI has been adjusting how memory works, which might be causing this confusion. You might want to try providing more context in your requests. Instead of simple prompts, try saying something like, "Hey, what can you tell me about the actress Ilka Chase from ‘No Time for Love’? I'm writing a report on her life." Giving it additional info can help it understand better what you're asking about.

A lot has changed with ChatGPT recently, and it seems like they've been trying to find a balance with how it responses. Some users are saying it’s coping poorly with neutrality and outputting less coherent responses as a result. It’s definitely a work in progress!
