Why Does My PC Keep Scanning and Repairing the Drive on Startup?

I've been having this annoying issue where every time I turn on my computer, it starts scanning and repairing the drive. This has been happening for a few days now. I've tried to repair it through file explorer, but that hasn't worked. I even used the command prompt as an admin, and it keeps telling me that the drive is corrupted, which I've linked to the dirty bit problem. I checked my SSD with CrystalDisk and it seems fine, but I'm running a full scan to see if there's possibly some malware causing this issue.

If your PC keeps getting stuck in these scans, it might help to avoid turning it completely off. Instead, consider using hibernate or hybrid sleep mode. You should also disable fast startup:
- Run "chkdsk c: /f /r" from an Admin command prompt and let it finish running.
- After that, use Disk Cleanup and make sure to click on "clean up system files."
- Try running "sfc /scannow" and then "dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth." If it persists, a startup repair might be your next step.

I had a similar issue before and managed to fix it! Boot up into Windows Recovery by searching for 'advanced startup.' Then navigate to troubleshoot > command prompt and enter "chkdsk C: /r /f." Let it finish and reboot your PC - it might just solve your problem!

It sounds like your drive might be failing. When Windows detects an I/O error during the last session, it sets the dirty bit and runs a scan on the next boot-up. Here are some steps you should consider:
1. Back up your important files because things can worsen unexpectedly.
2. Check the Event Viewer for any I/O errors related to your disk.
3. Be aware that about 30% of drives can fail with no warning in SMART data. It might help to check the drive's attributes, as some problems might not show up with standard checks. If you post a screenshot of the SMART data, we might help analyze it further.
