I've been really into watching long documentaries lately, especially those about China. I've noticed some interesting aspects of people's behavior and their appearances on the streets. When I tried asking DeepSeek to explain this, it blocked all my questions related to this topic. I even switched to the API client to see if I could get a different response, but it only provided a brief mention about life in China before its economic growth. I'm curious why such a harmless topic is censored. Anyone can hop on YouTube and see how people live in China, so it's puzzling that there's such censorship over it.

Honestly, why does it even matter to you how Chinese people live? Seems like you should focus more on your own surroundings, especially if you have no ties to China.
But isn’t it important to understand global perspectives? Not everyone has to be invested in one’s own country alone, and for many, learning about other cultures is a way to expand their knowledge.
I get that, but there's so much to learn from different places. Just because you don't care doesn't mean others shouldn't!
I'd love to know what specific question you asked DeepSeek! I'm planning to try it out with QwQ 32B myself to see if it gives a different answer.
There’s so much anti-China sentiment in media, it makes sense that filtering happens. Resources filled with US-funded narratives create a skewed perception.
I asked DeepSeek r1 (hosted on Perplexity) a similar question. If you're interested, I can share the response I got.
Do you have evidence to back that up? I think this might just be an issue of lazy filters or some words triggering censorship, even if they're relevant to the answer. Local DeepSeek doesn't seem to have these strict filters, actually.
