Why is gaming on Ubuntu feeling laggy despite high FPS?

I've recently set up a dual boot system with Ubuntu and Windows 11. However, whenever I play games on Ubuntu, it doesn't feel like I'm getting the full 240Hz experience, even though my FPS is over 500. I read online that switching to Wayland might help, but now my FPS is capped at 20 and everything feels really laggy. Any suggestions on how to improve this?

Have you thought about using the Nvidia drivers directly from their website? Sometimes the ones in the package manager don't perform as well. It could really boost your gaming experience!

It sounds like you might have an Nvidia graphics card, right? If so, make sure you’ve installed the proprietary Nvidia driver through Ubuntu's driver manager. And check which version of Ubuntu you’re running—24.04 LTS or 25.04? Also, consider toggling adaptive sync on or off to see if it makes a difference.

Try considering distros like Nobara or Bazzite. They might provide better support for gaming on Linux.
