Hey everyone! I hope you all are enjoying good weather and a nice start to your holiday break. I'm reaching out for some advice because I'm having a frustrating issue with my desktop's WiFi that has just started. I built my PC a few years back, and it was working great until recently when I noticed a significant slowdown in my internet speed. It's gotten to the point where even simple games like Old School RuneScape are lagging badly. I initially suspected it might be my internet connection, but my brother, who uses a device just next door, has no issues at all. This leads me to think that my desktop's wireless adapter might be the problem. I'm using a Wise Tiger wireless adapter and would appreciate any opinions on whether that could be the cause of my slow connection. If you need more information, feel free to ask! Happy New Year in advance!

It sounds to me like your WiFi adapter might be on its way out. If you can, try testing with another WiFi adapter or connect directly to the router via Ethernet and see if that improves the situation.
Yeah, WiFi adapters can definitely fail over time. The good news is that USB WiFi adapters are pretty affordable these days! Just keep an eye out for good quality ones.
Have you tried running a speed test or checking the ping to your router? That could help identify the issue. I'm here if you need assistance with that!
If you have a choice, a wired connection is generally more reliable for desktops. WiFi can be unpredictable and sometimes interference from other devices can cause issues too.
There's actually no real difference between WiFi setups for desktops and laptops. The better WiFi cards, like the Intel BE200 or AX210, are great upgrades if you're relying on older or cheaper setups. Also, ensure your antennas are properly positioned; metal cases can block signals.

True, the downside is that cheap USB WiFi adapters can sometimes perform poorly.
