Why is my gaming PC shutting down when playing modern games?

Hey everyone! I'm having a frustrating problem with my gaming PC. I've got an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090, 32GB of RAM, and I run Windows 11. For the past 4 years, I've had no issues playing demanding games like Cyberpunk at Ultra settings. Lately, however, whenever I try to boot up a modern game, my PC either shuts down or resets unexpectedly. This doesn't just happen during gaming; I've had similar issues when running OBS or using my camera on Discord. I've kept my drivers updated and regularly check for malware, plus I recently cleaned out the dust in my PC. I did run the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool, and it says there's a failure, but since I have an AMD processor, I'm not sure how relevant that is. I can't afford to take it in for repairs right now, so I'm looking for any advice you can provide!

It sounds like you might be dealing with some hardware issues. I recommend trying to reseat your RAM and unplug/replug any accessible components to make sure everything is connected properly. You might want to think about getting some thermal paste and reseating your CPU, too. Just a heads up that sounds a bit tricky if you’re not familiar with it, but it could help with overheating issues.

Yeah, I agree with that! Also, it could possibly be an issue with your heatsink or fan. If your PC is overheating while running demanding games, that could definitely cause shutdowns.

No worries about it being tricky; I've done a few builds, and just taking it slow helps! Just make sure to ground yourself to avoid static damage.

Also, are you plugged into a wall outlet or using a power strip? Sometimes an overloaded power strip can cause these kinds of problems, too. If not, it might be worth trying a different outlet just to rule it out.

Check your temps with HWInfo64 or MSI Afterburner. If your CPU is getting too hot and throttling before shutting down, that could be the culprit. Also, keep an eye on your power supply; if it's failing, it won’t deliver enough power when your system demands it during gaming.
