Why is my network speed struggling with YouTube videos?

Hey folks! I recently built a new computer, and everything seems to be running fine, but I'm having a strange issue with YouTube. When I try to watch videos in 1440p, the stream struggles, and the connection stats show a speed of only 3000 kbps. However, when I run a speed test, I'm getting download speeds of 929 Mbps and upload speeds of 935 Mbps. Downloads for games are also around 920 Mbps. I do have Proton VPN installed, but turning it off doesn't help. I've even tried a different browser without any luck. Any thoughts or ideas on what could be going wrong? Thanks!

It sounds like you're mainly having trouble with YouTube. Have you checked if other streaming sites are working okay? Sometimes, specific platforms can have issues unrelated to your actual bandwidth. When it shows 3000 kbps, that's just the streaming rate for that video, which can often be normal for 1440p, although it might not feel that way if you're experiencing buffering. Also, make sure your GPU drivers are fully updated, as that can affect video playback too. If the VPN is turned off, you shouldn't see that much lag unless there's something else at play with your setup.

So just to clarify, your issues are only with YouTube and everything else works fine? If gaming isn't lagging, it's likely not your internet connection, but rather how YouTube is handling the stream. You might want to try another site just to rule things out. Have you considered using a different streaming service for comparison?
