Hey everyone, I recently upgraded my gaming PC and it's been a bit of a disaster. I replaced my old 3060 Ti with a 5070 Ti and even upgraded my PSU to 850W to support it. I also removed all my old drivers with DDU and installed fresh ones. I thought this would boost my performance, but it hasn't. In fact, it's worse. I bought a new Gen 4 2TB SSD to replace my previous Gen 3 1TB SSD and did a clean install of Windows, but it hasn't helped. Games like League, Age of Empires 4, and Persona feel choppier, and my mouse pointer lags when I open games or apps. I know there's a potential CPU bottleneck since I'm running a Ryzen 9 5900X, but I don't understand why my performance dropped below what I had with the 3060 Ti. For context, I have another PC with a Ryzen 5 5600X and a 3060 that runs those same games about 50 FPS faster. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

What about thermal issues? Have you checked temperatures using HWInfo64? If your CPU or GPU runs too hot, it can throttle down and lead to worse performance. Also, if you're using any sort of riser card, make sure it's in the right slot and check that your GPU is recognized correctly under display settings.
Lastly, regarding your power connector, you need to ensure you're not using the same cable for the GPU twice. Any chance that’s happening? Make sure you have separate PCIe cables for optimal performance!
From what you described, this shouldn't be a software issue since you did a fresh install of Windows. Performance shouldn't degrade like that. I'd definitely recommend monitoring your CPU temps and checking if it's performing at its expected level. Running a benchmark could help you compare if something's off. Have you updated your BIOS? Sometimes those settings can affect things unexpectedly!
Definitely worth a shot! It can clear up quirks with new hardware.
It sounds like you've done a lot of the right troubleshooting steps, but let’s see if we can pinpoint this! Given that you upgraded to DDR5 RAM on an AM4, could this be part of the problem? You might want to check if your motherboard actually supports DDR5, as that could cause issues with performance.
Also, have you double-checked your GPU installation? Make sure it's seated properly in the primary PCI slot and that you’re using the right PCIe connections from your PSU. Sometimes these can affect performance without you realizing it! Good luck!
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll check the slot and connections to make sure everything's solid.
No problem! Let me know if that fixes it!
Did you check if your GPU is being recognized as the main display adapter? Right-click on your desktop, go to display settings, and see if under advanced settings it lists your monitor as connected to the 5070 Ti. Sometimes the system may revert to integrated graphics, affecting performance. Check on this step!
I'll look into that! Thanks for the tip.
No worries, I hope it helps!
I haven’t tried a BIOS update yet, but I’ll check that next!
