Why is my new WD Ultrastar showing 220 MB of used space?

I just got a recertified WD Ultrastar hard drive, and it's showing 220 MB of used space according to the properties. I've tried turning on hidden files, but that didn't help much. A quick format also didn't resolve the issue. Is this normal for a new disk, or should I be considering a full format to fix it?

You might want to try using Wiztree. It can show hidden or system files without needing to toggle that option in folder settings. It could reveal something written on the drive that you can't see otherwise!

Wiztree didn’t show anything for me either.

Is it possible that this space is being occupied by a swap partition that Windows uses as emergency RAM? It might not be visible but could explain the used space.

It's not uncommon for a new drive to have some space used due to the file system itself, but 220 MB does seem a bit high. I recommend deleting all existing partitions and creating just one new partition, then quick format it again. That should clear up any confusion.

Still no luck, it’s the same as before.
