Why is my PC’s internet connection capped at 10Mbps?

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue where my internet connection speed on both my Linux and Windows installations is limited to 10Mbps, regardless of whether I'm connected via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. The only time I get speeds above that is when I USB tether my phone to the computer, which isn't ideal for downloading larger files. What's causing this limitation, and how can I fix it?

If you're on ADSL, and more than 2 kilometers away from the junction box, that could be a real issue. But make sure your router and modem are functioning correctly, and maybe look into your wiring.

I agree, distance can totally affect your speed. Have you tried resetting your router to see if that helps?

Have you checked what internet speed you're actually subscribed to? It sounds like there could be a bottleneck or misconfiguration in your network settings. Also, test if other devices on the same network are getting better speeds through Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
