I've been having a weird issue with my RAM usage and I'm hoping for some insight. My Task Manager shows that I'm using 82% of my RAM, which should amount to 7.3GB total, but when I add up the RAM usage of the applications I'm running—just Edge, Spotify, and Steam—it only totals about 2.5GB. I know there are other background processes that could account for some extra usage, maybe an additional 100-300MB, yet it still doesn't seem to add up. Could this be a problem with my RAM or possibly a virus? Has anyone else dealt with something similar?

This kind of question comes up a lot! Remember, Task Manager only shows a part of what's using your RAM. Windows uses some memory for caching, so a high percentage can be normal. With Windows 11, it's typical to see it level out to around 30-50% used even if you have more RAM available, especially with 8GB being the minimum these days.
Unused RAM might seem like wasted RAM, but your system uses that 'unused' space to store things it might need quickly, freeing it up when something else needs it. So, it’s actually efficient use of resources.
Just a heads up, with the latest updates for Windows, many users notice some weird issues with RAM management. It seems like a decent chunk of RAM can get locked up without being available for applications. I’ve seen this affect performance in games, especially when you're running lower specs. It's nothing to panic about, but it can be frustrating!
You might not fully understand how RAM works. Your system uses as much RAM as it can to keep commonly used settings and features ready to go. Typically, with 8GB, you can expect to use around 4-5GB by default. With 16GB, it can go up to 6-8GB, even when you're not running any demanding applications.
It's usually nothing to stress about unless you're really hitting 100% and facing performance issues. Windows tends to preload certain programs into RAM to help them start faster, and it will clear that space when necessary. Right now, I'm using about 66% of 16GB just with my browser open, and I can still run more software without maxing out my RAM. So unless you're actually running out of RAM, I wouldn’t worry too much!
