I recently got a brand new USB drive, but when I plugged it in, it showed up as two separate drives instead of just one. I'm not sure what's causing this or how to fix it. Can anyone help?

It sounds like your USB drive might have two partitions or volumes, which is why it's appearing as two different drives. You can fix this using Windows Disk Management or macOS Disk Utility. Just delete the existing partitions and create a new, single partition that uses the whole drive. If your drive is over 32GB, it’s best to format it as exFAT for compatibility.
Are you seeing one of the drives labeled as a CD drive? That can happen if you’ve used the USB to create a bootable drive. In that case, your system is trying to boot from the read-only "pseudo" CD portion. If it's just showing as two USB drives, then it might just be a partitioning issue.
You could also use the formatter from sdcard.org. It allows you to consolidate the two drives into one and format it to the default filesystem. It’s a bit easier than using disk management, and it guarantees your drive adheres to SD specifications, especially if you're working with a drive over 32GB.
