I've been trying to play video games while watching YouTube on my second screen, but recently the playback has become really choppy, which is frustrating because it never used to be an issue. My hardware should be able to handle it, so I suspect something changed in the software. I want to clarify that I'm not going to disable hardware acceleration in my browser. Many people suggest that without explaining what it really does and the potential downsides. I managed to run YouTube videos smoothly with hardware acceleration enabled on my 2080 Super before, so I need help figuring out what might be causing this problem now.

You mentioned you're using a Ryzen 7 3700X, which should be solid for multitasking. Since your power settings are on performance, maybe Firefox is causing some hiccups in playback. You could try testing in a different browser to see if that changes anything. But definitely stick with hardware acceleration if you don’t want to offload tasks to your CPU.
Have you checked if the issue happens across different browsers? Also, take a look at your energy management settings. Sometimes, if they're not set for performance, that can affect playback. It might help to check for any updates for Windows, graphics drivers, or your browser as well. By the way, what CPU do you have? That could also play a role in performance issues.
