Why was my email service application rejected, and how can I improve for next time?

I verified my email and domain, and my use case is quite standard—users subscribe to a topic and receive notifications when new content is posted. I also described my email content and planned to use Sendune. Despite all this, my application got rejected. Before I reapply, I'd love to know what might have caused the rejection and how I can enhance my website to improve my chances of being accepted next time. Is there a tool or agent that can help me do a pre-check of my application?

Using Sendune might have raised a red flag because it’s mostly used for marketing emails, which can look spammy to AWS. You also need to clearly explain how unsubscribes will be managed. If you’re using a personal account instead of a business one, that could appear low-effort and suspicious. AWS needs to know you're legit and won’t be spamming!

If you're open to alternatives outside of AWS, take a look at Resend. It's super quick to set up and you can send your first email in just a few minutes. It might be worth considering if SES doesn't work out for you!

To increase your chances, you should consider how trustworthy your application looks to AWS. Are you already an established AWS customer with a solid spending history? It's important that your email domain has a good reputation and has been around for a while. Make sure you fully describe how users can opt-in and opt-out, as well as how you'll handle bounces and complaints. A clear Privacy Policy should also be included. If your website is just starting out, AWS SES might not be the best fit just yet.
