Will a Second Monitor Hurt My Gaming Performance?

I'm considering buying a second monitor for gaming, specifically either another Dell g2724D or a 24" FHD. My specs include a B850 CPU, 9800X3D GPU, and a 9070XT. How much FPS should I expect to lose with either option?

The performance hit is minimal—like around 1% or even less if you aren’t running heavy tasks on both screens. I’ve used a second monitor for gaming, and I never noticed any issues.

I've used multiple monitors for years and never had any performance issues. Running the second one requires very little in terms of resources, so I doubt you’ll notice any meaningful slowdown while gaming.

Honestly, adding a second monitor usually doesn’t tank performance. Unless you plan on doing some crazy split-screen gaming or something similar, the impact is really minimal. A lot of people use dual setups without any noticeable drops in FPS.

Right! I usually have a stream or YouTube running on a second monitor, and I forgot to mention that before. Even then, the performance drop is usually pretty negligible.

Simply put, running a second monitor won’t tank your FPS. If anything, it’s an upgrade in usability at a small cost to performance—if any.

Having a second monitor really won’t affect performance much, especially if it's just idling. It might use a bit more VRAM if you’re running a higher resolution, but most people shouldn’t worry about it impacting their gameplay significantly.

That's true! Just don’t pair a 1080p with a 1440p; it feels cramped. I opted for a cheaper 4K TV for my second screen, and it's perfect for watching videos.
