Will Changing IP Addresses Affect Our Ricoh Printers?

I manage a few offices that rent Ricoh multi-function printers, and while I'm not usually based there, I visit to provide occasional support. We're planning to implement a new network setup that will assign new IP addresses to all devices, including the printers. Previously, we've helped users install the Ricoh software on their workstations, which has been straightforward. My thought is that once the printers get their new fixed IP addresses from our network management portal, we can just rerun the Ricoh software to scan for them and get everything back up and running. Is this a valid assumption? I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with Ricoh devices to confirm this. I'm also in touch with the office managers to gather more information, but I wanted to reach out for insights in the meantime.

Honestly, you should think about using DHCP together with a print server. It simplifies managing network printers, especially in larger setups. Less headache down the line!

You might want to consider using DHCP reservations instead of directly assigning static IPs. This way, if anything changes, your DNS records can reflect those changes without needing to reconfigure everything manually. Just a thought!

A PowerShell script could come in handy to update those IPs quickly if your printers are not using WSD. Just check out this GitHub repository for some handy tools that might streamline the process!

You’re definitely on the right track! If you set those IPs to be fixed, the printing software should be able to detect them without much hassle. It’s a common setup, and most users haven’t had issues once the new addresses are applied. Just a heads up, having a clear naming convention for your printers can help avoid confusion later on!

What if the printers have default admin credentials? Will that make the setup easier?
