Will Manually Updating alsa-ucm-conf Mess Up Future Updates in Kubuntu?

I'm a bit perplexed about how updates work in Linux, specifically Kubuntu. I've recently fixed my audio issue by manually changing the alsa-ucm-conf file to a newer version from the GitHub repository. Since I made this change, I want to know how future updates for package updates are handled. If Kubuntu updates alsa-ucm-conf, will it overwrite my manual changes, ask me what to do, or just skip it altogether? I really want to ensure I don't end up stuck with this temporary fix forever! For context, my MSI X870E Carbon motherboard's audio was non-functional even on the latest Kubuntu (25.04), and I successfully got it working by following the steps from the GitHub repo. Cheers for any insights!

When you upgrade using the terminal, it'll alert you if there's a conflict between your edited configuration file and the version from the package maintainer. Usually, it defaults to keeping your edited file. If you're using a graphical interface for updates, it'll likely stick to that same default. If you want to ensure you always get the updates, consider deleting your local version of alsa-ucm-conf and reinstalling it clean from the repository. That's the best way to stay updated!

Got it! So, I should periodically check for updates to alsa-ucm-conf from Kubuntu and then just clear my edits when necessary. It can be confusing how some updates seem to take forever compared to others, especially with urgent issues like audio not working on certain motherboards!
