Can I Unlock My Permanently Locked iPad Pro Without Disposing It?

Hi there! I'm in a bit of a bind with my iPad Pro 13 that I haven't used in a while. When I finally turned it on, it asked for my passcode, which I couldn't remember since I mostly relied on the Face ID feature. After too many failed attempts, it got completely locked. I took it to an Apple service center hoping they could help, but they said the USB-C port is damaged and they can't restore it because the model is too old for repairs. It's frustrating because the hardware seems fine otherwise. I paid a hefty price for this and can't believe I might have to just throw it away. Is there really no way to unlock it? Has anyone faced a similar situation or found a workaround? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Definitely check out the Apple support site for resetting options. They’ve got some guides that might help you navigate this issue a bit better.

If the USB-C port worked, you’d typically be able to reset it using iTunes. You might check out iFixit for some repair guides specific to your model. It could help with troubleshooting!

Before anything, make sure your iPad can still connect to Wi-Fi. If you’re using the same network as before, try turning it on and see if it connects. If it does, you can go to iCloud.com and erase it remotely through the 'Find My iPhone' feature. If it can’t connect though, then that route won’t work. Just thought it was worth mentioning!

Great suggestion! Just keep in mind, if the device doesn't connect, then it might not be your best option.

I’d suggest taking it to a non-Apple authorized repair center. Just be aware that it may cost you and depending on the issue, it might not be worth it compared to getting a new device.

You can look up Apple’s support page for resetting the iPad if you’ve forgotten the password. There might be some procedures that could help, even if your iPad is locked!

You might want to check out some third-party repair shops. They often can fix damaged ports or at least replace the connector. If they can get that USB connection working again, you could restore your iPad via cable after that. Worth a shot!
