I'm looking for a super lightweight Linux distribution for my old laptop which has only 1 GB of RAM and a 1 GHz CPU. Ideally, the download size should be under 500 MB. Any recommendations?

Have you thought about using Puppy Linux or Mint? Puppy is extremely lightweight and might be perfect for your setup!

If your laptop is that old, it probably runs a 32-bit system. I’d recommend trying Debian or LMDE, as those still support 32-bit versions. Just skip the niche distros; they might not be worth the hassle.

Tiny Core Linux is definitely a great option! You can try the Core (17 MB) for just the command line or TinyCore (23 MB) if you want a simple GUI. They've got a lot of options depending on your needs.

You might want to check out Bodhi Linux Legacy. It’s designed for older hardware, so it could work well for you.

You could give Arch Linux a shot if you’re feeling adventurous. It’s lightweight, but it does require some setup. Just a heads up!
