If you’re curious about Arch, give it a try in a virtual machine first and intentionally practice recovering from mistakes. Breaking and fixing it can teach you a lot, but switching distributions repeatedly shouldn’t replace learning the basics. Arch mainly differs from Mint because it makes you responsible for more of the system.

For gaming, Arch-based systems generally work well, particularly with AMD graphics and Steam. Still, hardware compatibility and your preferred maintenance style matter more than the distribution name, so testing the system before committing is a good idea.

Arch is manageable if you’re comfortable researching problems, reading documentation, and using the terminal. If you want the Arch ecosystem with a simpler installation, CachyOS or EndeavourOS could be good starting points. It’s still worth learning how the system works instead of treating a different distribution as a shortcut.

You don’t need to choose a distribution because it seems popular or impressive. Start by listing what matters to you: ease of maintenance, gaming support, customization, reliability, or learning more about Linux. Mint is already a solid choice, while Bazzite, Nobara, CachyOS, and other options each prioritize different things.

Arch expects you to understand more about the boot process, package updates, and system maintenance. You may need to plan updates and occasionally resolve package issues yourself. Try it on a spare drive or reserve some disk space for testing so you can migrate gradually rather than making it your only system immediately.
