Advice on Pricing a Website Project for a Family Member

I'm relatively new to freelance web development and currently working on my second paid project. I'm looking for some guidance on how to charge for a website I'm building for a family member. The project is set on Wix and involves creating approximately 12 main pages focusing on life-assistance and support services. The pages include a home page, about section, services overview, specific service pages, and more, and the client will supply the logo and most content. Given my limited experience and the fact that it's for family, I'm uncertain about pricing—especially compared to what a seasoned professional might charge. Specifically, I'd love to know what a seasoned pro would charge for both an unknown client and a family member, and the same for someone new like me. Also, any insights into expected timelines would be super helpful!

For a project like this, I suggest you approach pricing like it's a real job. A seasoned pro would likely charge between $3.5k to $6k for an unknown client and offer about a 20-30% discount for family—around $2.5k to $4k. If you're new, consider charging between $1.5k-$3k for an unknown client and maybe $1k-$1.8k for family. Just be sure to define your deliverables clearly, limit revisions, and set milestone payments. Also, consider the value of ongoing support when discussing price with your family member.

While I understand the family connection, I'd advise caution. If something goes wrong with the booking system after launch, who’s going to handle it? Establish upfront that ongoing support isn't part of your job, or this could strain your relationship. My two cents? Make it clear from the get-go that you'll help them get it running but you might hand it off to another developer later. That way, you’re not stuck in a situation where they rely on you.

Instead of using the Wix booking system, consider third-party services like Calendly or Square. They offer better functionality and won't lock your client into Wix. For your pricing model, I suggest a baseline of $3,800 for 5 pages on a lump sum basis, plus $100 per extra page. Since you're using Wix, I'd say cut that amount in half for a total around $2k for family. Focus on design efficiency by using templates for standard pages; it'll save you a lot of time.
