I'm looking for recommendations for a Linux distribution for my dad, who is retiring and new to computers. He'll primarily be using the laptop for web browsing, like social networking and playing online chess, as well as writing poetry using LibreOffice. Since he's accustomed to Windows and only knows the basics, it's essential I choose a Linux distro that's easy to navigate and feels familiar. I'm considering Winux Operating System but would appreciate suggestions that are beginner-friendly, simple to maintain, and not confusing. What do you think?

You might want to try Linux Mint. It's quite beginner-friendly and has a user interface that's somewhat similar to Windows, which should help your dad transition more easily.
Consider using Fedora with KDE Plasma. The interface resembles Windows 10, and it has a wide selection of applications available. Just make sure to find a distro that doesn’t require constant updates, so your dad doesn't get overwhelmed.
Kubuntu is another option! It’s based on Ubuntu but has a pretty user-friendly KDE Plasma interface that many find visually appealing. It’s been stable for me as a beginner, and honestly, most software runs well on it too—I've had zero issues in the past two months!

Thanks for the heads-up about the updates! I want to keep things simple for him.
