Best Debian-Based Linux for Stability and Gaming

Hey everyone! I'm currently using ZorinOS on my laptop and loving it. Since I'm still somewhat of a beginner, I'm planning to stick with Debian-based distributions for my desktop transition to Linux. I'm considering ZorinOS, PopOS, and Linux Mint, as I've heard they're all solid choices right out of the box. However, I'm curious about the desktop environments—Gnome, Cinnamon, and Cosmic—and which one is best for a large support community. I'm thinking Gnome is the most developed of the three, though I'm open to corrections.

I don't mind troubleshooting Nvidia driver installations myself, but is it wise to continue with Zorin? Stability is crucial for me, and while I'm not after the latest games—just catching up on my backlog—gaming performance is important too. Just so you know, my desktop specs include a 4070 Ti Super and a 7950X3D processor, which I've read has better CPU scheduling on Linux for multiple CCDs. Would it be a good idea to stick with Zorin and handle any gaming dependency installations myself?

Honestly, you can experiment with any of them. I’ve found LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) to be quite stable and up-to-date with software, not to mention lighter on resources compared to ZorinOS—especially if you're looking at the Cinnamon option.

Zorin's great if you're already comfortable with it, but keep in mind it’s not the only option. As you said, you don’t play the latest games, so whatever suits your workflow best is what you should stick with.

Ever tried Zorin? They often prompt you to join their forums upon installation, which could be a great place for support. Might be worth checking out!

Gnome is indeed a solid choice, but don’t overlook others. It's all about what environment you feel comfortable with. Just dive in and see which one fits your style best!

While Debian/Ubuntu can be stable, if gaming is your main focus, you might want to consider something based on Fedora, like Bazzite. With Fedora KDE, there’s a bit of terminal work needed post-install for proprietary drivers and codecs, but after that, the Discover store is quite handy. I even have a setup script you can grab for easy installation!

I appreciate the input! I prefer Debian/Ubuntu for the stability, so I’m leaning towards sticking with what I know from Zorin. I just want a smooth setup that doesn’t require too much command line fuss since I'm still getting the hang of it.
