Hey everyone! I'm a complete newbie to Linux and looking for some guidance. I have an older laptop with a GTX 1050Ti that's been slowing down with Windows, but I know the hardware is still pretty solid. I mainly use my laptop for browsing, streaming, schoolwork, and sometimes light VR sessions. I also run a mini server for some non-intensive games like The Isle, which I play with a few friends. I'm hoping to find a user-friendly Linux distro that can help maintain my laptop's performance. I'm open to suggestions, and I'm willing to learn, even if there's a bit of a learning curve. I've already created a backup of my system on a USB, so I'm ready to make the switch if needed. Thanks for any recommendations!

Make sure to double-check if all your essential apps will work on Linux. If they do or have alternatives, I'd recommend trying out Mint or Ubuntu for starters. They’re great for new users!
What’s your laptop’s full spec? Knowing the processor and RAM helps in recommending the right distro!
For your needs, Linux Mint is likely the best bet. It's super user-friendly, plus it has a graphical driver manager to easily install the Nvidia driver for your GTX 1050Ti. If VR doesn’t work well on Mint, you could give Bazzite a try. It’s Fedora-based and focused on gaming, with options for KDE or Gnome!
You might want to check out MX Linux or Sparky. They’re both pretty solid for older hardware and user-friendly!
Sure! It’s got an Intel 8th Gen i5-8300H, a GTX 1050Ti with 4GB VRAM, 12GB RAM, and a 1TB HDD. Thanks for prompting me to share!
