Hey everyone! I'm currently stuck on Windows 10 (not a fan of 11), and I'm really interested in switching to Linux. I've tried out a few distros like Mint, Zorin, and Ubuntu. The main reason I returned to Windows is that I love recording guitar covers, but I found music production on Linux quite challenging and poorly documented. I know there are distros specifically for audio production, but I also want to be able to game and edit videos. I'm a bit intimidated by those specialized options. I've noticed that many people suggest Arch for music production, but as a beginner, that feels daunting. I'm considering trying CachyOS instead. My setup includes Reaper as my DAW, a Behringer UMC22 audio interface, and an M-Vave 25 MIDI keyboard. Does anyone have experience with a similar setup? I'd really appreciate any recommendations and tips to make music production on Linux a smoother process!

I've been running FL Studio through Wine on Ubuntu and it has been running great for the past few releases. Music production on Linux is definitely possible if you're willing to explore some workarounds!
Reaper has a native version for Linux, but don't forget about free options like Ardour and LMMS that work really well too. Since Pipewire became standard, audio handling in Linux has improved dramatically. It used to be a mess with different subsystems, but now everything works together beautifully.
I've got Reaper working perfectly on Nobara, and it's a breeze! If you need a straightforward option, this might be the way to go.
I've been using Reaper on Linux Mint with some neural DSP plugins, and everything works like a charm. I also dual boot CachyOS, but I prefer Mint for audio production because it's more stable and uses X11, while CachyOS uses Wayland, which can mess up plugin window scaling.
I've recently gotten into Bitwig and I'm loving how well Zorin handles audio interfaces and MIDI keyboards—almost no lag, it feels as smooth as MacOS! I used to have to tweak settings all the time on Windows, but here it just works!
CachyOS is a solid choice! You get the benefits of Arch without the hassle of setting it up yourself. Plus, having most of the system handled for you is a big plus.
