Hey everyone! I'm looking to breathe some new life into my aging system and would love your advice on the best upgrade path. Here's what I currently have: a GTX 1060 6GB, a Ryzen 5 1600X, and 32 GB of RAM. My main usage is for work, especially with 3D software like Ansys, CATIA, and Blender, along with a bit of machine learning on the side. Gaming is just for fun, and I'm fine with Full HD since I don't play the latest titles anymore.

I'm open to spending a bit more if it could significantly broaden my upgrade options, and I don't mind considering used gear. I'm leaning towards upgrading the CPU, but I'm worried that if I only upgrade one component, it might end up bottlenecking my performance. What do you guys think is the best approach? I'm based in Central Europe. Thanks for your help!

You're in a lucky spot not needing to upgrade your RAM. That gives you some extra budget flexibility. Focus on the CPU first, since your 1600X is a bit dated for heavy workloads. Just keep in mind that the GPU is still important if you're doing any gaming or graphical work. Choose wisely based on how much performance boost you need for your tasks!

First off, it would help to know your motherboard model. Typically, you’d be looking at Ryzen 5000 series CPUs like the 5600, which would pair well with your current setup. Just keep in mind that if you’re thinking about a newer GPU, you might find that you’ll need to spend quite a bit more than just a few hundred bucks for a decent upgrade. Since you're in Central Europe, there are plenty of high-end AM4 parts available on the used market right now. Just be sure to check compatibility with your motherboard!

Plus, if you're considering a higher-end GPU like the 5060 Ti, your PSU needs to be up for it, so check that too!

Upgrading the CPU is indeed a great start, but don’t forget to factor in your power supply and motherboard compatibility. If you're open to used parts, you might score a good deal on a Ryzen 5 5600 or even a 5700X. If you can swing it, a GPU upgrade could be a game changer too, but make sure your budget allows it because prices can get pretty steep!
