Best Ways to Run an Ethernet Cable Through a Door

I'm trying to get ethernet access for my gaming PC, which is located in my bedroom. The only ethernet port available is in the living room, but since I live in an apartment, I can't drill into walls or floors. I'm wondering if there's a way to run the ethernet cable through the door without causing any damage and still be able to close it without leaving a gap. I've checked and there aren't any ethernet ports in the bedroom. Any suggestions?

I ended up drilling a tiny hole on the hinge side of my doorframe to pass the cable through. Depending on your leasing rules, that might not be allowed, but it's something to think about if you're okay with it.

One option is to use a flat ethernet cable. You should be able to fit it through the gap in the doorway without any issues. If you want to get creative, you could even modify a standard cable a bit to make it flatter at the point it goes under the door.

Have you considered using powerline adapters? They allow you to transmit ethernet signals over your existing power lines, which is super handy in situations like yours where running a cable is tricky.

If you really want wired internet, why not just set up the PC with a direct ethernet connection instead? It’ll give you a much faster and more stable connection than Wi-Fi.

Check if there’s a gap at the bottom of the door; sometimes there's a 1-inch space that can fit a cable. Just tape it down so it stays put and doesn’t get pinched when you close the door.
