I'm curious about whether Bluetooth headphones, particularly those with microphones, can be used to listen in on conversations without me knowing. I've heard that some devices can use features to pick up ambient sound, like how AirPods can connect to an iPhone, but I'm not sure if this is a general capability or just specific to certain models. Can anyone shed some light on how Bluetooth works regarding this, and if there's any impact on how the headphones function while this is happening? For example, would my music stop playing if someone could listen through the mic? I don't have a strong understanding of technology, so any insight would be appreciated!

Nope, Bluetooth connections are encrypted, meaning that you can't just connect to someone else's headphones to listen in. You need to pair the devices for them to work, and as far as I know, there's no way to tap into the mic remotely without explicit access through an app which you have to allow. AirPods have a special feature to do this with Apple devices, but it's not something that applies to all Bluetooth headphones.

That actually makes a lot of sense! Thanks for clarifying!
