Can Different IP Addresses Indicate Multiple People Behind an Account?

I've got a bit of a situation. Someone created an Instagram account that's spreading false information about me. To figure out who it might be, I sent the account a grabify link to see what details it would provide if the account owner opened it. I know IP addresses aren't completely reliable, but I thought it could at least give me an idea of the state this person is in. In the past 24 hours, they clicked the link twice. The first click showed a location in Texas with the ISP as Automatic, using Windows and Internet Explorer. The second click showed Virginia, with Comcast as the ISP, running on Android 10 and Google Chrome. According to IP Quality score, neither IP appears to be from a VPN. Now, I'm wondering if the drastic change in locations means there are two people managing this account. What are your thoughts?

If you're feeling uneasy about it all, definitely think about reaching out to local authorities. They could provide the best help. But I get it; some people have had negative experiences with law enforcement. Just stay safe!

Honestly, I wouldn't overthink it. Since one of the visits was on Android and the other on a computer, it could just be them switching devices. Plus, people can share links, so it’s possible someone else accessed it too. Just be cautious, and if things escalate, consider reporting it.

Good point about sharing links! I just feel like I might be able to get a better idea of what's going on before I have to escalate.

It's really tricky to say how many people are behind that account just from the IP addresses. IPs can change for all sorts of reasons, like someone rebooting their router. The different locations you’ve seen could be one person using different devices or just someone turning off and on their router.

Thanks for that! That makes sense about the router. I’m just trying to gather some clues before involving anyone else.

Instead of trying to chase down the IPs, why not just report the account directly to Instagram? They have the tools to handle this kind of issue, and it might save you a lot of trouble in the long run. It's tough to determine how many are out there without solid proof.
