Can iOS Users Get Infected by Malicious PDF Files?

Hey everyone! I'm a student and often find myself searching for studies or documents online. Sometimes I click on links that lead to PDFs instead of regular websites, and I know there are infected PDFs out there. Usually, these PDFs come from trusted sources like Cairn.info, but I'm still concerned. If I'm just opening a PDF on my iOS tablet without downloading it, could I still get hacked? I've heard that iOS PDF viewers are sandboxed, but does that really eliminate all risk? I appreciate any insights!

There's always a chance that a file could exploit a vulnerability in the app you're using to open it. This risk isn't limited to just PDFs and can happen on any operating system, including iOS. Just be cautious about what you're opening.

Yes, but it's generally less likely. While iOS devices aren't 100% immune, installing malware on an iPhone is much trickier compared to a PC. Most malware is designed for platforms like Windows, so the risk is pretty low. Just make sure you don't install suspicious files or enter your personal info from any links in a PDF.

Damn.. hope it’s not the case! But seriously, just opening a PDF shouldn’t infect your device unless there’s a specific vulnerability being exploited. Just be careful with what you’re clicking and try to stick to reputable sources.
