Did I get a virus from a scary pop-up on my phone?

I recently encountered a pop-up on my phone while browsing a website, claiming "Your phone has viruses" and similar scary messages. Instead of clicking on the pop-up, I hit the back button a few times and eventually closed the tab within about 10 seconds. I'm just worried that hitting the back button first might have exposed me to any dangers. Can anyone share legitimate insights on whether I might be at risk?

You're totally fine! That pop-up is just scareware designed to freak you out. As long as you didn’t click on anything or download anything, you're in the clear.

Yep, you're safe. Hacking isn’t like the movies. Unless you actually install something or hit any prompts, you won't catch a virus from a pop-up.

Pop-up scams need you to take specific actions like clicking links or allowing changes to your settings. If you didn’t see any prompts asking you to install something, then you didn’t get infected at all.
