Hey folks, I'm in need of some urgent help. A while back in 2022, I bought a new PC with Windows 10 and decided to disable updates to avoid system issues. I did this by adding tons of Microsoft sites to my hosts file, over 1300 in total! Now, I need to access the Microsoft Store to install an additional language pack, but I'm getting error 0x80070005. Previously, I fixed a similar issue by removing one specific site from my hosts list, but I forgot which site that was! I've spent months searching for the right answer but haven't had any luck. Can anyone point me to that site or find a comment from someone who had a similar issue? Please, no suggestions about editing the registry or other unknown actions—I just need to pinpoint that one website. Thanks for any help!

It sounds like you've really tied your hands with all those sites in your hosts file. I totally get wanting to avoid updates, but those restrictions can definitely lead to complications. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it’s one of Microsoft’s own sites that needs to be unblocked to get access to the Store. Maybe check if you blocked anything like ‘microsoft.com’ or ‘windows.com’? They often crucial for accessing their services.
Honestly, I can't help but think this level of security is causing more harm than good. If you're unwilling to adjust your hosts file, getting these services to work might always be a struggle for you. But maybe try searching 'Microsoft Store access error fixed' as well; someone might have documented a site to avoid specifically.
Totally with you on that. Sometimes being overzealous with security backfires. If you really remember blocking some key sites, that might be your solution!
Yeah, agree. It’s surprising how one small change can impact so much. If you haven't already, try unblocking the main Microsoft domains—you’d be surprised how often they get involved in these errors.
