I recently installed Linux Mint, but I'm having trouble getting any sound to work. I've tried reinstalling PulseAudio, PipeWire, and even the kernel, but I'm unable to access Alsamixer. Whenever I attempt to open it, I get the following error messages:
~$ alsamixer
ALSA lib confmisc.c:855:(parse_card) cannot find card '0'... etc.
I checked if Linux is detecting my sound card, and according to the output of 'lspci -v|grep -i audio', it recognizes the Intel 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio. However, sound still doesn't work. Can someone help me troubleshoot this?

You might want to check if your audio output settings are set correctly. Have you tried plugging in external speakers or headphones? Sometimes the internal settings can get a bit wonky! Let me know if that helps!
From what I've seen, Alsamixer seems to be acting up for you. It might help to reinstall it entirely and give it another shot. If you're still getting errors after that, we might need to dig deeper into the sound card drivers or settings.
It sounds like your model might be having some compatibility issues. Acer systems aren't always the best for Linux support. You should look up specific solutions for your Acer model related to audio, and make sure your BIOS is updated to the latest version—this can sometimes resolve hardware recognition issues!
