I'm looking to replace Chrome OS with Ubuntu on my Chromebook (HWID: LANTIS). My device has an Intel x86_64 chip, 4GB RAM, and developer mode enabled. I prefer the standard Ubuntu over Xubuntu because I love its desktop environment. Also, I'm curious if I can do this installation without using a USB drive. I could get one but I'd rather not if there's an easier way.

You'll likely need a USB drive to install Ubuntu on your Chromebook. It's the most straightforward method to get the OS onto your device.
While a USB is the easiest route, you could try network booting, but it's not very reliable. Another option might be using a USB card reader with an SD or Micro SD card if you have one around.
Can you please describe network boot for me? I at least want to give it a shot.
