Hey everyone! I recently switched from Windows 10 to Kubuntu and have always relied on antivirus software for security. I got a bit frustrated when I asked about antivirus options for Linux and mostly got comments about how antivirus is just a scam for Windows users. I'd love to know how to secure my system since I've had some tight spots with malware and viruses in the past on Windows. For example, I once got a USB drive infected with malware, and my antivirus caught it immediately when I plugged it in at home. Is there something similar for Kubuntu? What can I do to keep my system safe? Thanks!

You're more secure on Linux just by using it, honestly. Most malware is designed for Windows and Linux doesn’t follow the same structure. The USB malware you encountered works differently in Linux; you generally won’t have the same problems. If you're worried about browsing, use Firefox with uBlock Origin. It blocks bad sites and makes browsing safer.
Linux typically faces far fewer threats compared to Windows, so most users don't find antivirus necessary. Your Linux distro probably has a built-in firewall, so check its documentation for setup. Additionally, tools like SELinux or AppArmor can help to secure the system in memory. They're pretty effective at keeping things safe!

I appreciate that! But isn't it a bit concerning that as Linux becomes more popular, it could be more targeted? Shouldn't there be more proactive measures to check for threats?
