Hey everyone! A few days back, I accidentally clicked on a sketchy link that led me to a fake McAfee download site. It started with a CAPTCHA which I navigated, but I quickly exited after seeing the dodgy McAfee pop-up. I ran three virus scans using Windows Security – a quick scan, a full scan, and also the Microsoft Defender Antivirus offline scan, and thankfully, nothing popped up. However, this morning, I noticed something (photo in comments) and I'm wondering if the McAfee WebAdvisor I see is genuine or if I inadvertently downloaded it while dealing with the fake pop-up or clicking that CAPTCHA. Sorry if this sounds silly; tech isn't really my strong suit! Thanks for your help!

If you're worried about malware on your system, it's a good idea to uninstall any software you’re unsure about. I had someone contact me recently about similar software, and our enterprise anti-virus didn't flag it as malicious. But honestly, I'd steer clear of McAfee in general; I've heard it's more trouble than it's worth!
Honestly, McAfee is like the annoying software of the antivirus world. It usually does come pre-installed, but many people have reported it feeling more like malware than actual protection. If you can uninstall it or avoid using it, that's probably for the best!
That’s likely a legitimate product, especially since McAfee WebAdvisor often comes pre-installed on many new computers nowadays. Just be careful where you download things from in the future!
