Hey everyone! I'm coming from a Windows background, where I'm used to floating windows. After trying out Gnome and KDE, I chose KDE because of its flexibility and customization options. However, I've been getting really interested in tiling window managers, especially one that scrolls (I have my eye on this awesome setup, but it seems exclusive to a specific distro!).
There are a few things on my mind:
1. Full tiling WMs seem quite specific for my tasks, especially since I rely on a lot of fullscreen applications.
2. Karousel, a script for KWin in KDE, has some bugs and doesn't support multi-screen setups yet.
3. I'm intrigued by Niri as a DE, but it sounds like it'll take some time to personalize it. I'm okay with that, but I'd like to maintain two environments—one for work and one for exploring.
I enjoy tweaking configurations manually, but I'm also under pressure to finish a project.
So, should I create a new partition for a fresh Linux install, or is it straightforward to switch between DEs? Could I stick with Niri's WM only? Or is trying to switch to a scrolling WM a bad idea? Appreciate any guidance!

Absolutely, it's quite easy! Most display managers will let you select the environment upon logging in. Just check what display manager you're using, as some may be easier than others for switching.
Switching between different desktop environments (DEs) or window managers (WMs) is generally pretty simple! Most display managers like SDDM let you choose which DE to log into, and you can actually have multiple DEs installed at once—as long as you have enough disk space.

That’s good to know! I’ll make sure to look into it. If I find out I’m not using SDDM, can I still switch easily?
