Issues with USB-C to 3.5mm Adapter for My Gaming Headset

I'm having trouble with my Blackstorm Squad II headset, which connects via a USB-C to 3.5mm cable. The original cable broke and now only outputs some sounds. I've tried using a standard USB-C to 3.5mm cable, but it didn't work at all. Additionally, I tested a USB-C DAC adapter with a normal 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable, but that also failed to produce any sound. I've reached out to the retailer, but their only suggestion was to purchase an expensive Apple USB-C to 3.5mm cable. I've been able to use the headset with a Windows PC previously, and I also tried it with my phone without any success. I suspect the original cable had some unique features. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

The USB-C to 3.5mm connection requires an active signal converter, and unfortunately, most adapters only work one way. They either convert digital to analog or vice versa. So, if you’re trying to use a DAC that only works for USB-C output to 3.5mm headphones, it won’t work if you need 3.5mm input to USB-C output for your microphone. Your headset might need a specific kind of adapter that’s pretty rare; it sounds like the manufacturer made a custom one. Third-party options likely won’t replicate that functionality, which is frustrating.

That’s tough! If the original cable had some proprietary tech, replacements might not do the trick. I would avoid that USB-C headset scene in the future if possible — having to rely on specific cables can be a hassle. Have you checked if any other models with USB-C to 3.5mm specifically mention being compatible with your headset, or are you thinking of just going for something completely different?
