My Internet Drops Every Hour for Up to 30 Minutes – What Could Be Wrong?

Hey everyone, I recently moved to a new townhome in a development where Spectrum is the only internet provider available. I've been facing a frustrating issue: my internet goes down for about 2 to 30 minutes, roughly once every hour. The weird part is that my modem and router lights don't change at all, so it doesn't seem like there's an issue from my end. All my devices, both Wi-Fi and my hardwired PC, disconnect during these outages.

I've contacted Spectrum multiple times, and they say everything looks fine from their side since they're monitoring just the modem/router status. Interestingly, my neighbor, who shares the same internet service, is experiencing the exact same problem.

Spectrum has sent out three techs already - they've buried lines, replaced hardware, and switched cords, but none of them could find a solution. One tech suggested it might be related to a node issue. To keep track, I've even started a spreadsheet to log each outage.

I'd really appreciate any ideas or insights on what might be causing this!

You might want to check your DHCP lease settings. Sometimes if they're set incorrectly, it can cause these disconnections. Make sure they’re configured properly.

I recommend running some extended pings to your router and also to your ISP’s gateway when this happens. It’ll help narrow down the issue by seeing which connection fails during the outages.

You could also try a traceroute to 8.8.8.8 and see where it drops. It won’t give you as detailed results as pings, but it’s easier to do quickly when your internet is down.

Yeah, exactly! Traceroute is a great quick check. It can point out where the connections slow down or drop as it hops through different points.

Have you checked the logs on your PC? They might provide clues about what’s happening during those drops. You can share them with your ISP too, which might help.
