Questions about AMI Subscription Fees

Hey everyone! I just got my invoice for last month and saw the charge for my AMI subscription, which I was expecting. Here's the product link: https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/prodview-j2th3juwkr5ry. But I still have a few questions after checking the pricing details:

1. Since this is a subscription-based AMI, am I required to pay a flat fee if I don't actually launch any instances?
2. Will I get charged for instances launched from this AMI if they're not currently running?

And just to satisfy my curiosity, if I happen to use an AMI from a non-Marketplace owner that originated from a subscription-based AMI, what would happen? Thanks a lot for your help!

Hey there! I recommend checking out this document that can clarify your AMI subscription fee questions: https://go.aws/44XnZro. If you need further help, reaching out to the AWS Marketplace team might be a good idea. You can contact them here: http://go.aws/contact-us-marketplace.

Hey! For AMI subscription fees, it usually depends on the type of subscription you have. If it's an hourly subscription, you'll only be charged for the time the instance is running. So, no running instances means no extra costs!

As for your second question, with hourly subscriptions, you won’t incur charges for instances that are in a stopped state.

Regarding your extra question, if you're using an AMI from a non-Marketplace source that was created from a subscription-based AMI, you won’t be able to launch it unless you subscribe to the product from the Marketplace. The launch will fail, and you'll see the details in CloudTrail.

And just a quick note, if you need something free, you might consider Amazon Linux, which only incurs EC2 costs. Hope that helps!
