Should I be worried about accidentally opening a personal Amazon order at work?

I'm using a disposable account to ask this because I work for a state government agency. The other day, my wife and I ordered something from Amazon for our bedroom, but while I was at work, I used my work computer to check on an order for exercise equipment. In a bit of a panic, I accidentally opened the wrong Amazon order and closed the tab immediately after realizing my mistake. Now I'm super stressed about whether this could get me in trouble or even fired. Is this something that IT could notice or flag in any way?

Usually, unless you're in a super secure environment, no one cares what you're doing on your personal time. The IT team doesn't have the bandwidth to track all of that unless there's an ongoing investigation.

That's good to know! I was just imagining some IT person signaling alarms!

It's unlikely they'll notice. IT usually has bigger issues to deal with than someone checking their Amazon account. A slip-up like this happens all the time—no need to stress!

Thanks for the reassurance! I just panicked when it happened.

Hey, as an IT guy, I can tell you that we really don't have the time to monitor employee shopping habits. We're more focused on keeping the organization's security intact, and personal Amazon orders are generally not on our radar.

As long as this was a one-time accident and you can explain it was a mistake, you should be fine. It sounds like you have a clean work record too, which helps. Everyone makes mistakes, and it seems like you realized it right away.
